Proportion: Making a 1/2" Grid

Introduction to Art

Objective: Students will demonstrate synthesis by creating

a 1/4" grid and turning it into a 1/2" grid with 80% accuracy 

and 100% completion by the end of class.

Today we will be reviewing our vocabulary and learning how to
make a one 1/4" grid over an image and then make the image twice
as large by creating a 1/2" grid.

Homework: print out a school appropriate image that shows
foreshortening and is no larger than half a page.

a thumbnail and labeling how they will use tenebrism with 

100% completion by the end of class.

Today we going to begin our thumbnails using extreme chiaroscuro-tenebrism.
A way that artists show emphasis and focal point is to use high contrast with
light and dark.

I was out sick for most of Monday and all of Tuesday and
Wednesday. Most classes did not stick to the agenda laid out
for the substitute so today we will be giving time to those who
need to catch up. If there are students who are missing work,
today was the day we talked together about how to bring up
grades.

Finish Final Draft

Introduction to Art

Objective: Students will demonstrate synthesis by composing

a finished artwork based on an altered fairy tale with 80% 

accuracy by the end of class.

Today, we finish working on our final drafts of our artwork. Our artwork
is based off of what we changed in the original story of the fairy tale.  All

own artwork.

Students will finish creating their compositions using a motif and a pattern.
Students must use progressive rhythm in their composition by changing the
motif slightly each time it is repeated.

We will be using markers for this composition.

Action on page 313. Students must answer all questions in sections 1-4 using
complete sentences.

differences, we will take the original stories and change the plot and/or characters
in our groups.

Today we start reading our fairy tale stories. Students start with the story
Into the Woods and will be assigned an original story that is also part of
Into the Woods. (Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood
and Rapunzel) Students read both stories and make a list of similarities and
differences between the original stories and the story within Into the Woods.

Today we are getting into groups to create a composition with a variety of
texture while using mixed media. This will be a contest to see who can create
the most interesting, creative composition.You must include at least 4 types
of media, have 5 textures, and a pattern with a motif in it. Your compositions
can be realism, abstract, surrealism, naturalism or cubism. You must create
thumbnails (no min or max #), one rough draft and a description of what your
concept is. We will be peer critiquing to make sure everyone is participating
and everyone gets a separate grade.I will have three teachers (myself not
included) that will participate in the judging process.

Today we will vote class best for the value animal project and then we will
critique a peer's composition. Once we are finished we are going to go
outside for about ten minutes and collect 8 textures by placing the charcoal
over the texture and use the charcoal to rub on the paper against the surface
of the texture.
